Kamolika Das, the founding director of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy’s local team, is leaving ITEP to become the Director of Tax Policy and Planning for the City of Philadelphia, where she lives.
Das joined ITEP in February 2020 as an analyst on the state policy team before helping to launch the organization’s local team in 2023. Prior to her time at ITEP, she held positions at the DC Fiscal Policy Institute and Prosperity Now.
“I see this opportunity as a chance to continue the tax equity work that has been at the heart of my time at ITEP, but from a different angle,” Das said about her new role.
With Das’ departure, ITEP’s local work will be managed by Analyst Rita Jefferson and Senior Fellow Nick Johnson.
Since the local team launched in early 2023, ITEP has made enormous strides in creating foundational resources on local taxation and elevating local tax policies that create better lives for children and families in their communities.
ITEP is the nation’s premier tax policy research institute providing one-of-a-kind data and analysis that advocates, journalists, and policymakers nationwide use to create more economically and racially just tax policy.
“We are thrilled to see Kamolika take on this crucial role, bringing the knowledge and insight she brought to ITEP to the concrete challenges that a major American city confronts,” said Amy Hanauer, ITEP’s Executive Director.
