House tax writers have been doing their part to drum up support over the recess, with Ryan stopping by Boeing on Thursday. Critics were quick to note that Boeing is hardly the poster child for a company weighed down by a high corporate tax rate. “GOP leaders tout corporate tax cuts at Boeing and AT&T, companies that already have single-digit tax rates,” says Matt Gardner, a senior fellow at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, who authored a report earlier this year on the effective tax rates paid by Fortune 500 corporations. He says Boeing has paid an effective tax over the past eight years of 5.4 percent. Read more
