“As Walke pointed out, those who qualify must funnel a higher percentage of their yearly wages to income taxes than their well-heeled neighbors. They also pay sales taxes, and in many cases, property taxes. The Oklahoma Policy Institute calculated the numbers, and it said SB 1604 means a single mother with two kids, with a full-time job paying $10 an hour, will have to pay $231 more in taxes. A married couple pulling in $20,800 a year to support three kids would be skinned for another $313 in taxes. The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy claims the average loss will be about $91 per family. The numbers are worse in Walke’s district: nearly $141 per family, he said.”
