Most folks already know that Policy Matters Ohio not a Republican-friendly group, but its new calculations on the latest state tax cut proposal are eye-opening nonetheless.
Here’s the labor-backed nonprofit’s key takeaway: Half of the tax cuts the Ohio Senate approved last week for the current tax year will go to the top 5 percent of Ohio earners, who earned at least $151,000 last year.

An analysis by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, a Washington D.C. nonprofit, showed that the moves designed to help Ohioans beyond the top income brackets – the higher personal exemptions and earned income tax expansion – would generate only very modest savings for middle-income Ohioans and almost nothing for the poorest Ohioans.
