The Spokesman Review: Idaho tax balance too much for GOP?

“At this point, you’ve got to wonder why anyone would still harp about cutting taxes in Idaho. For one thing, the state is hardly overtaxed. Whenever the State Tax Commission looks at tax burdens, it finds Idaho’s near the bottom. By one recent measure, the state is ranked 49th out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. South Carolina comes in at 50th. Alabama is 51st. Idaho is lowest among the 11 Western states. And for another, Idaho does a pretty good job of distributing its tax burden fairly among rich and poor alike. As reported by the personal finance website WalletHub.com, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy ranks Idaho fifth best in the country – behind No. 1 Montana and No. 2 Oregon but ahead of Utah (seventh), Nevada (12th), Wyoming (28th) and Washington (50th)/Marty Trillhaase, Lewiston Tribune.”
