Following is a statement from Amy Hanauer, executive director of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, regarding the death of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:
“The board and staff of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy and Citizens for Tax Justice mourn the sad news of the loss of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. Mr. Trumka was a powerful voice for America’s working people and for tax justice. He knew that a fair country relied on good wages, fair taxes and union contracts. Today’s loss is a loss for America’s workers and communities and his legacy will inspire us to keep fighting for an economy that works for all of us.”
