The Tennessean: Activists hold bake sale to make point about Tennessee taxes

Tennesseans for Fair Taxation, a group that advocates a state income tax, never seems to give up.
The legislature may be no mood to consider an income tax (video), but TFT was outside Legislative Plaza today with a ploy to win them over. Members of the group held a bake sale, with proceeds to go to the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
The sale was intended to make a point, of course. Baked goods were 85 cents — the state’s total tax burden on the earnings from one hour of work at minimum wage, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy — for anyone who identified themselves as part of the 99 percent. But everything was free of charge for the 1 percent, a policy meant to show the state is giving away too much to high earners and corporations.
TFT raised more than $30, including donations. And word was that the s’mores were very tasty.
